Right now, I am particularly glad (and excited) to be able to tell you that it was agreed during our Board meeting that next year, in April 2027, we will host a conference in my native city of Cork Ireland, the proposed Conference venue being in the magnificent grounds of my alma mater, University College Cork (Ireland first Green campus). UCC was where I picked up my first two degrees in the late 1970s/early 1980s, before qualifying as an Irish solicitor, way back in 1983!
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin (Irish Prime Minister) (a fellow Corkman and a fellow UCC graduate) to give an opening address.
I am already working on a draft Conference programme and, subject to invitations being issued (and accepted), it is hoped the programme might look something like this:
An Taoiseach Micheál Martin (Irish Prime Minister) (a fellow Corkman and a fellow UCC graduate) to give an opening address.
EU Commissioner Michael McGrath (another fellow Corkman and another fellow UCC graduate) (who has responsibility for Democracy & Rule of Law as well as Justice & Fundamental Rights) to give a keynote speech in relation to the important role of the Notary Public in relation to the administration of justice both within the now only common law jurisdiction within the EU, i.e. Ireland, and within the other EU civil law jurisdictions,
Chief Justice Donal O’Donnell (not a UCC graduate) to chair a panel discussion in relation to the future of the notarial profession, at home and abroad, with colleagues drawn from from our own membership and from The International Union of Notaries (UINL; Spanish: Union Internacional del Notariado Latino).
Incoming Indian Ambassador Shri Manish Gupta (not a UCC graduate) to chair a panel discussion on the prospect of development/establishment of a Notarial Faculty (association) in India, and other jurisdictions within which notaries public practice, but which are not (yet) members of the Association.
A speaker from the EU’s new Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) which is headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany, with operations having launched in mid-2025 to harmonize EU-wide AML regulations, AML Regulation (AMLR – 2024/1624): A “Single Rulebook” becoming directly applicable in all member states from July 10, 2027, reducing national variations.
A speaker from the Irish Legal History Society on historical aspects of notarial practice,
– perhaps an expert on Christopher Columbus, telling the stories of the notaries that travelled with him to the New World, to attest to what he had got up to there, etc.
(Needless to say, there will be CPD points available for attendance).
If anybody would like to be part of an initial mailing list to receive updates on plans for the Conference and as to the progress in relation thereto, then please email the Administrator at [email protected] asking to be kept up to date on plans as they progress.
